Tier Points | What can you do with them?

Tier Points (TP) are an important metric within the British Airways Executive Program (BAEC). Based on the amount of Tier Points you collect during your membership year British Airways determines your elite status level within the Club.

Tier Points | How can you earn them?

Easy answer: Fly a lot with British Airways and partners. For each flight you take you will earn TP. The amount of Tier Points you will earn depends on:

  • Booking class of your ticket;
  • Flight distance.

E.G. a flight from Amsterdam to London in economy class will earn less Tier Points than the same flight in business class. A flight from London to New York will give you more Tier Points than a flight from London to Madrid.

As stated Tier Points are rewarded per flight taken. If you fly from Amsterdam to New York via London, Tier Points will be awarded both for the flight from Amsterdam to London and London to New York.

Tier Points | How many do you need for elite status?

You need to collect 300 Tier Points during your membership year to earn Bronze status. With 600 Tier Points you will receive the Silver status. Finally when you earn 1.500 Tier Points during one membership year you will be awarded British Airways Gold status.

These British Airways Executive Club statuses reflect respectively Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald elite status within the OneWorld alliance.

Short Haul+ routes | Earn more Tier Points

On most British Airways flights to a destination on the European continent you will earn 40 Tier Points in Business Class per flight. This is the case on flights from London to Amsterdam, Paris etc.

There are certain destinations within Europe classified as Short Haul Plus destinations. Because of the flight distance you will not earn 40 Tier Points per flight, but 80 TP.
